After the Mexican Revolution ended in 1920, the artistic period known as Mexican Modernism began. During this era, Frida Kahlo’s innovative artwork conveyed turning points by compelling viewers to acknowledge marginalized groups. Kahlo's paintings illuminated individuals with disabilities, indigenous people, and women.
"Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it," - Bertolt Brecht, n.d.
